Finding calm with the third eye.

For better or worse, the advent of cell phones has democratized photography. We can argue about the social and cultural impacts of that revolution, particularly on professional photographers. But we all can agree that telephone-camera technology has changed the way many of us see the world.

Over the years, I’ve published a number of Iphone photo essays covering everything from sunsets to pandemic art. In this latest edition, I’ve created what I call a “third-eye collection,” images that suggest — at least to me — something more than the purely visual. In a world suddenly gone mad, I hope you find in them, as I do, a second or two of peace, reflection, humor, or simple distraction.

A culture writer, I enjoy tugging at the sacred, profane, and prosaic threads that shape behavior and belief.
